Create a Healthier Plate During National Nutrition Month

Proper nutrition is an essential component to living a healthy lifestyle. That's probably not news to you, but sometimes we all forget and get sucked into a rut of not eating or drinking the most nutritious things. March is National Nutrition Month, an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign was designed to help educate people on making better decisions when it comes to what's on their plates. Here's a preview of what you can learn about and try each week in March.

Week 1: Mix Things Up a Bit

Throughout the first week of the month, you're encouraged to try a variety of nutritious foods every day. Incorporate something healthy in your meals from every food group. Take time to educate yourself by learning how to read nutrition facts on food packages. Also, try to slow down during meals. Take time to enjoy your food.

Week 2: Make a Plan

Week two will focus on meal planning and will teach how to plan healthy meals and how to shop for healthy foods. You'll also see information about understanding menus and how to order healthy meals at restaurants.

Week 3: Get in The Kitchen

The third week will help you in the creation process. You'll step into the kitchen with helpful information about cooking healthy meals. You'll learn how to keep healthy foods stocked and how to minimize food waste. Throughout the cooking experience, you're encouraged to try cooking something new for yourself or your family.

Week 4: Meet with a Dietitian

The final week of National Nutrition Month will have you taking the big step to launch your healthier lifestyle fully. You'll learn how you can actually meet a registered dietitian by talking to your doctor. Through your dietitian, you can build a personalized plan for a healthier diet.
