Infused water is a staple in most salons and spas. Refreshing and colorful fruit or herbal water to make your wait a little more enjoyable and your post-massage hydration more relaxing.
Some of us enjoy making infused water at home, by adding ingredients such as parsley, orange or lime rinds, frozen fruits, ginger, watermelon, basil, or kiwi. The flavors can turn water into a “cocktail”, encouraging us to drink more. And we all know that’s a good thing!
Benefits of Infused Water
Are there added benefits of infused water? Here’s what our expert, Dr. Joshua Thurman, tells us.
“Drinking adequate fluid is essential. Some people may enjoy infused water, making it easier to stay well hydrated. In general, the added nutrients are probably modest, particularly for someone eating a normal diet. On the other hand, infused water typically does not have a significant amount of sugar so there is no downside to drinking it.”
Of course, you'll want to ensure you wash your fruit or vegetables thoroughly before preparing your infused water. If you buy pre-cut fresh fruit, make sure it’s refrigerated. Once you’ve made your water, put it in a sealed container in the fridge. You can infuse water up to 12 hours but after that fruit, veggies, and herbs should be removed from the water. Infused water can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
