We’ve heard the saying for generations. When you’re sick, drink plenty of fluids!
Drinking Water When You're Sick
The prescription works. Water is a weapon against many of the symptoms of colds and flu. Here’s why.
When you have a runny nose or fever, you’re losing fluids. And if you don’t replace them, you’ll get dehydrated. Drinking more water breaks up the mucus in your nose and fights lung congestion, so you have more of a defense against the flu bug or that nasty cold.
So how do you know how much you need? Drink when you’re thirsty and also check your toilet bowl; if your pee looks dark, up the water intake.
Stay away from coffee, caffeinated sodas and alcohol because they all dehydrate you. When you’re back to normal they’ll still be there and if you’re drinking the water you need, you’ll recover faster and enjoy them sooner.
Here’s to your health!
